100 years ago today, in the town of Mt. Airy, NC, an event occurred that at the time was common and ordinary. The arrival of Andy Samuel Griffith in the home of Carl and Geneva Griffith was much like any other birth. However, ordinary Andy Griffith was not. He used his immense talent, drive, and ambition to impact millions of people around the world in his lifetime. His comedy, dramatic acting and musical talent created some of most well known and best remembered movies, television shows and recordings in history.
Mayberry Comes to Scottsburg specifically celebrates the wonderful television work of The Andy Griffith Show. The fictional town of Mayberry and its citizens were the creation of an amazing team of writers and producers. But the influence of Andy Griffith on that ensemble cannot be denied. It was his vision that shaped the series, and his insistence on creating timeless, clean humor in an atmosphere of love and caring that continues to inspire today. On this, the 100th anniversary of his birth we remember with deep gratitude the man who gave us this special place and the Mayberry Spirit that continues more than 60 years since we first saw father and son walk to that fishing hole.
